Description
Selaginella erythropus ‘Ruby Red’ Club Moss is a striking tropical spikemoss with velvety green fronds and glowing ruby-red undersides and stems, creating a dense, mossy carpet of color in terrariums, vivariums, and other high-humidity displays. Its low, creeping habit makes it perfect for foreground planting, edging hardscape, or tucking into shaded nooks where you want a lush, rainforest feel alongside ferns, mosses, and other shade lovers.
This plant thrives in warm, consistently humid conditions with low to moderate, indirect light, similar to a shaded forest floor or closed glass terrarium. Provide a moisture-retentive but well-draining substrate (such as a peat or coir-based mix with added perlite), keep the soil evenly damp but never soggy, and avoid letting it dry out completely.
For best results, maintain temperatures around 65–80°F with humidity above 70%, use distilled or rainwater if your tap water is hard, and skip heavy feeding—at most, use a very dilute, balanced fertilizer during active growth. Ruby Red Club Moss is not an aquarium plant and should not be fully submerged, but in the right terrarium-style setup it will reward you with rich color, soft texture, and steady, compact growth that’s beginner-friendly yet impressive enough for collectors.
