The Cape Sundew (Drosera capensis) is a visually striking, carnivorous plant native to the Cape region of South Africa, admired for both its unusual appearance and its insect-catching abilities. Mature plants typically grow 5–6 inches (12–15 cm) tall and wide, forming elegant rosettes of long, narrow leaves radiating from a central point. Each leaf is covered with fine red, tentacle-like glands exuding glistening sticky mucilage, which attracts and traps insects—a clever adaptation for surviving in nutrient-poor, marshy soils.
Carnivorous plants make a great gift for your green friend, but they're not puppies!
Before you purchase a living gift for someone, be sure they understand and can provide for their requirements. It's not hard. But some plants are not very forgiving.
