  • Blue Spikemoss (Selaginella emmeliana) Blue Spikemoss (Selaginella emmeliana)

    Blue Spikemoss (Selaginella emmeliana)

Blue Spikemoss (Selaginella emmeliana) is a compact, moss-like fern relative with fine, scale-like foliage that forms soft, creeping mounds of green to bluish-green texture, perfect for terrariums, paludariums, and shaded containers. Its low, spreading habit makes it an excellent foreground or filler plant around hardscape and larger tropicals, adding a lush “forest floor” look without overwhelming nearby specimens. This species thrives in consistently moist, well-draining, slightly acidic substrate (such as an ABG-style or peat/coir-based mix) and absolutely hates drying out, so the soil should stay evenly damp but never waterlogged. Blue Spikemoss prefers cool to warm temperatures around 60–75°F, high humidity (ideally 70%+), and low to medium, indirect light—too much direct sun can scorch the delicate foliage, while very low light keeps its growth compact and terrarium-friendly. For best results, grow it in a closed or semi-closed terrarium or group it with other humidity-loving plants, mist regularly, and avoid cold drafts or blasts from AC and heaters. Fertilizer needs are minimal; if desired, apply a very dilute, balanced feed only a few times per year, and trim back the creeping stems occasionally to maintain a dense, cushiony mat.

  • Blue Star Fern

    Blue Star Fern

The Blue Star fern (Phlebodium Aureum) is an exceptionally attractive houseplant, prized for its soft, wavy blue-green fronds and easy-care nature. Its leaves display a range of cool tones from blue-gray to green. The Blue Star is a unique fern featuring elongated, deeply lobed fronds that shimmer in subtle shades of blue-green. Unlike many ferns, it features a velvety texture and a gently arching, cascading habit, making it suitable for hanging baskets, shelves, or tabletop displays where its foliage can be fully appreciated. Known for its adaptability, this fern thrives in moderate indirect light and tolerates occasional drought or lower humidity, making it easier to care for than some of the more delicate species. Its appearance is enhanced by its golden-tinted, fuzzy rhizomes, which may creep over the pot's edge and provide additional visual interest.

  • Ruby Red Club Moss (Selaginella erythropus ‘Ruby Red') Ruby Red Club Moss (Selaginella erythropus ‘Ruby Red')

Ruby Red Club Moss (Selaginella erythropus ‘Ruby Red')

Selaginella erythropus ‘Ruby Red’ Club Moss is a striking tropical spikemoss with velvety green fronds and glowing ruby-red undersides and stems, creating a dense, mossy carpet of color in terrariums, vivariums, and other high-humidity displays. Its low, creeping habit makes it perfect for foreground planting, edging hardscape, or tucking into shaded nooks where you want a lush, rainforest feel alongside ferns, mosses, and other shade lovers. This plant thrives in warm, consistently humid conditions with low to moderate, indirect light, similar to a shaded forest floor or closed glass terrarium. Provide a moisture-retentive but well-draining substrate (such as a peat or coir-based mix with added perlite), keep the soil evenly damp but never soggy, and avoid letting it dry out completely. For best results, maintain temperatures around 65–80°F with humidity above 70%, use distilled or rainwater if your tap water is hard, and skip heavy feeding—at most, use a very dilute, balanced fertilizer during active growth. Ruby Red Club Moss is not an aquarium plant and should not be fully submerged, but in the right terrarium-style setup it will reward you with rich color, soft texture, and steady, compact growth that’s beginner-friendly yet impressive enough for collectors.

    Cape Sundew Typical

The Cape Sundew (Drosera capensis) is a visually striking, carnivorous plant native to the Cape region of South Africa, admired for both its unusual appearance and its insect-catching abilities. Mature plants typically grow 5–6 inches (12–15 cm) tall and wide, forming elegant rosettes of long, narrow leaves radiating from a central point. Each leaf is covered with fine red, tentacle-like glands exuding glistening sticky mucilage, which attracts and traps insects—a clever adaptation for surviving in nutrient-poor, marshy soils. Fast-growing perennial that can live for many years. Leaves are slender, lime green to reddish, and curl around prey for digestion. Inflorescences rise above the foliage with clusters of delicate pink flowers appearing from late spring into autumn. After flowering, tiny black seeds form in capsules, allowing easy propagation
